Some of the nationally-recognised qualifications may be available as part of a full-time or part-time course. This is a good option for cases where New Apprenticeship isn't available for your chosen qualification, or where you can't find a New Apprenticeship position. There will be course fees, and these can vary depending upon the training organisation. It is important that any course you do in this way includes a significant component of structured workplacement in the industry, so that you can actually develop and apply practical skills in a real workplace. Using a Registered Training OrganisationThe training for nationally-recognised qualifications can only be delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). An RTO is a training provider that has been through a registration process, managed by the state government, to make sure that it meets basic quality requirements to deliver the training. RTOs can include TAFE, private training providers and some industry associations and companies. If a training provider is not a Registered Training Organisation for the particular qualification, they cannot issue you with a nationally-recognised qualification. Some training providers also offer courses that are not formally recognised; this can carry some risks for students who complete these courses, and may make it more difficult to find work in the industry. For more information on identifying courses that will be properly recognised, see Choosing the right course. Finding a Registered Training OrganisationThere are often many different Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) offering courses based on the nationally-recognised qualifications, which means that you may have a choice of organisations. Different RTOs will offer courses in different locations and according to different timetables. An RTO should be able to advise you on course entry requirements, fees and charges, locations, timetables, their facilities and equipment, the experience of their training staff, and so on. As you are the paying customer, you can 'shop around' to find the RTO that will best suit your specific needs. To find an RTO for a specific qualification, click on the relevant qualification title below. This will take you to the National Training Information Service website. Once there, you just need to select your state and then click on the 'Search for provider' button. The resulting list will be a list of all RTOs that have approval to offer that qualification in your state. Click on the organisation name to view their contact details.
