International Professional Standards Network
Service Skills Australia represents Australia as one of the four founding countries who benchmark educational qualifications and industry standards through International Professional Standards Network (IPSN) to improve the industry recognition and mobility of skills based occupations worldwide.
Standard-setting bodies and government and industry representatives from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa, make up IPSN. IPSN will be open to all industry sectors that are part of the vocational education sector. Hairdressing and Beauty are the initial industry sectors actively engaging and benchmarking their qualifications.
Hairdressing
IPSN mapped hairdressing skills for each member country's qualifications. The process included mapping all standards/curriculum modules between each country in an agreed common framework and identifying any skill or knowledge gaps between member countries.
The IPSN has advanced to the stage where Australian hairdressers who meet IPSN criteria in qualifications and experience can apply for certification that will be industry recognised in other member countries.
The first IPSN graduates from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa received their certification at the inaugural IPSN award ceremony in New Zealand in November 2010.
