Tourism & Hospitality Workforce Development Strategy

Cover imageNational and international data indicates that there is a shortage of suitably qualified and skills workers for the tourism and hospitality industry. The tourism and hospitality industry is forecast to experience continued strong growth in the years to come.

The Tourism and Hospitality Workforce Development Strategy outlines the priority areas for achieving the overall goal of access to the number of skilled employees that the tourism and hospitality industry will require to be successful in the future.

The document has been developed by industry, for industry and provides direction to confront the challenges facing the tourism and hospitality industry.

Following the launch of the strategy in February 2009, a roundtable meeting was held in each state with industry stakeholders. The key outcome focus for this project has been to identify, group and report on national issues, concerns and trends within the tourism and hospitality industry in relationship to the VET system. In early July we published a paper Implementation of the Workforce Development Strategy - Issues Paper in which the outcomes of these forums were distilled.
